Location: Rhinebeck High School, North Park Road, Rhinebeck, NY 12572

The film highlights the predominant message that young people receive from mainstream media day after day: that a woman’s value and power lie in her youth, beauty and sexuality and not in her capacity as a leader – i.e., that the contributions of the Kardashian sisters are somehow as valid (if not more mediadeserving) as those of former secretary of state Hillary Clinton. “Miss Representation,” features a fascinating montage of interviews, new clips and sound bites from politicians, journalists, entertainers, activists and academics, including Condoleezza Rice, Nancy Pelosi, Katie Couric, Rachel Maddow, Margaret Cho, Rosario Dawson and Gloria Steinem. The film as been hailed as breakthrough by Oprah Winfrey, Variety Magazine, Entertainment Weekly and others and will astonish and motivate much post-screening discussion between young and old, male and female.
Note to parents: This movie deals with serious issues of how the media portrays women and girls, as well as girls' self-‐image. It is essential viewing for boys and girls in high school and for parents of kids of all ages. We hope it will spark further discussion among and between kids and parents. Please note that, while the movie is not rated, it does contain suggestive and disturbing images, content, and language.

Held in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1974, the film is not just about the historical match -- it also speaks to issues of identity, culture and self-esteem.
Joining audiences at the screening is Oscar winner, director Leon Gast, who is delighted to share his film with the Young Rhinebeck audience, none of whom were witness to the 1974 boxing championship but all of whom will relate to this fascinating story full of charisma, charm and edge-of-your-seat action, not to mention the fantastic soundtrack featuring the greatest voices in soul music. Gast will conduct a post-screening Q&A with Woodstock Writers Festival’s Martha Frankel and hand out some wonderful prizes for thoughtful teen participation.
